Merion Friends Meeting

615 Montgomery Avenue

Merion Station, PA 19066

In 1999 the federal government designated Merion Friends Meeting a National Historic Landmark, and an extensive study was undertaken of the construction and design of the 17th century meeting house. Built by Welsh Quakers, it is a unique wood structure that featured expert carpentry and was raised on a busy site used by native Lenape for moving along streams.

The historic horse sheds at Merion Friends Meeting, built in the early 19th century, require critical repairs to ensure their stability and prevent further deterioration. These sheds are part of a meetinghouse complex that has supported generations of families who lived, worked, and gathered in this community. Preserving them is essential to maintaining the integrity of this historic site and honoring the role Merion Friends Meeting has played in Lower Merion’s development.
